My order of Methotrexate arrived from Ontario, Canada in Friday evenings mail !
I still have to be without it this weekend, but Monday I will be at my doctor's office with the vials.
Thankyou to Canada for supplying emergency medicines to the USA, when companies and manufacturers have shortages,
or just plain stop making certain medicines because the companies in the USA cannot make mega bucks off the lesser cost medicines.
Prescription Drug Shortages in the USA. Methotrexate for Rheumatoid Arthritis :
I have been without my chemo injection of Methotrexate since October 19th. I get this injection once a week usually on Wednesdays for severe Rheumatiod arthritis since 1999.
The Doctor and I found out the hard way that I'm allergic to the preservative in one form, but I have always got the "preservative-free" vials. The one with preservative was the only kind being manufactured in August.
Then in September Methotrexate without preservative became available once again. That kept me going for a few more weeks.
Currently, it's un-available again. Both of my pharmacies, CVS and Walgreen's say they have stopped manufacturing Methotrexate.
This has just got to be politics ! Methotrexate is in-expensive for RA treatment so the companies cannot make mega money from it.
The last few years, the newer biologics have been being used on RA patients. Yes, and alot have died ! Patients suffer so much that they will risk anything to get relief from the inflammation.
I cannot take any of the IV's or infusions or injections of the biologics. TB, Fungus ( systemic) lung diseases, liver problems, and eye problems are all common side effects of biologics.
The cost is enormous for this type of RA treatments and the RA doctors and pharmacutical companies and manufactures are getting rich from this new drugs.
I was one of the lucky ones who contacted a company here in town to order ( with my own doctor's prescription) 5 weeks supply of Methotrexate. 5 vials for $136.50. Plus shipping from Canada.
It has not arrived as of yet. I hope and pray it will arrive by this week sometime. It was shipped out on Friday, October 28th 2011.
